eFile & eRecord an Abstract of Judgment in San Francisco County

Description

The San Francisco Superior Court mandates electronic filing (eFiling) for most civil cases, including Abstracts of Judgment. This process is facilitated through File & ServeXpress (FSX), the court’s designated eFiling Manager (EFM)

Steps to eFile and eRecord:

Obtain the Abstract of Judgment (Form EJ-001): Complete this form, available on the California Courts website .​

eFile the Abstract:

Follow the platform’s instructions to submit your Abstract of Judgment electronically.​

eRecord the Abstract:

After eFiling, the court will process your submission.

A certified copy of the Abstract will be returned to you.

Record this certified copy with the San Francisco County Recorder’s Office to create a lien on the debtor’s property.​

Important Notes:

eFiling is mandatory for most civil cases in San Francisco Superior Court

Self-represented litigants are encouraged to eFile but are not required to do so

Ensure all documents are scanned at 300 dpi or higher and in black & white to meet court requirements
